Whether rich sapphire, bold chartreuse or a cooling aquamarine, the hippest colors showing up at weddings this year are blues, greens – or both. Blues and greens top the color palette for many brides, and are tagged as the trendiest wedding colors for 2009
The shades that are popular for 2009 are as varied as brides themselves, although trends are showing stronger, bolder colors are preferred by many brides. Bright aquas, lime green and chartreuse are among the top choices, frequently paired with another bright hue. During the summer and fall, expect the hues to be bold, bright and rich. Fall and winter weddings will showcase deeper, warmer and richer hues. Rich shades of navy blue are gaining popularity among those brides who don’t opt for the bright and bold colors, and are frequently paired with the bright tones to provide some balance. Navy is seen as providing an elegant touch to weddings, especially evening affairs.
Quite often the bold colors are paired with a neutral palette. Brown continues to be a strong choice for weddings and is striking with many of today’s greens and blues. The new neutral for 2009 is gray, which adds a shimmery elegance, especially when paired with navy, turquoise or another rich shade of blue. According to the Wedding Report, the most common place for the colors to show up is on bridesmaids’ dresses and wedding cakes. Colors are also carried through in flowers, table décor and other decorations, as well. Wedding stationery is the perfect place to set the color choice for the wedding, beginning with save-the-date cards and, of course, invitations. The invitation sets the tone for the wedding for guests, conveying not only the colors the guests can expect to see at the wedding, but also the formality or simplicity of the event.
The sky’s the limit for brides when selecting the colors for their wedding. Brides should always select the color or colors that they prefer… regardless of what the experts say!
